As the race begins, people drop what they're doing and flock around the race track to watch the race. Some bring their lawn chairs to sit around the fence; others stand and watch, and even more watch from the porches of their cabins. Many families own their own cabin on the fair grounds where they stay the whole week and gather with relatives. My family is watching the races from my Uncle Donny's two story cabin, where most of my family goes to watch the races because it has an outstanding view. My family owns another cabin right behind theirs, but all anyone can see from it is an immense ditch and cabins across.

In this diminutive County of Mississippi, this fair is the largest event ever. All year round, there's never really anything to do. You have to drive two hours to get to a mall. The only place that's really there is a small theater they just recently built. Otherwise, the only place to go is to a park, to Wal-Mart, or to a grocery store. The biggest event besides the fair is deer hunting. They make a huge party out of deer hunting. The men always wake up at three in the morning with their camouflage on and guns in their hands. After a long day of hunting they gather their deer and go to a friend's house, where they skin the deer and then drink and frolic. They never are expected to return home until the next day.
